SME's Response to Citizens for Clean Energy
Local Economy
Over a period of 3-1/2 years, approximately $100
million in construction wages will positively impact the local
economy.
An annual rate of $4 to $5 million in permanent, skilled
power plant operators and maintenance staff wages, will also
boost local economy.
Employment Figures
Construction
Highwood Generating Station (HGS) will provide high-paying
jobs for a construction work force which will peak at 450
to 650 workers for a period of approximately 3-1/2 years.
Permanent
HGS will provide 65 to 75 permanent, high-paying jobs for
skilled power plant operators and maintenance staff.
Cost
HGS will represent a $720 million investment in Montana’s
energy production infrastructure.
Rate Stability
Southern Montana Electric G&T’s HGS will meet
wholesale energy needs of the five member cooperatives and
the City of Great Falls. HGS will use Montana coal and Montana
limestone to generate approximately 250 MW of power that
will be earmarked to meet electrical energy needs of approximately
120,000 Montana energy consumers at “cost-based” rates.
HGS will be wholly owned by Montana energy consumers.
